Casa Grande Valley Newspapers Inc.

We were on a trial basis with thespecdept.com in order to see if we wanted the service for our newspaper. One of the account executives needed an idea for one of her Realtors and we went on the site to look for ideas. We found a fantastic ad on the "Award Winner" portion. We printed out the idea and the Realtor bought it. The revenue from this spec was over $500.00 in additional revenue for our newspaper. We are thrilled!!

The Mail Tribune

In July the Mail Tribune downloaded a full page auto ad from The Spec Department. We had a local auto dealer that was running occasional weekend "events" and would throw an ad together at the last minute. We took to a proactive role in July and downloaded an ad with the headline "Sizzling Hot Summer Sale." We created a weekend event that involved 3 full page, full color ads and threw in some bonus 3x5's. The over-all buy was double the normal weekend expenditures of the dealer. The results were so positive the dealer signed a contract to run the same weekend promotion every month. Since July we have used 3 other Spec Department ads. These ads resulted in a 25% annual budget increase. Not only that but other dealers noticed the bright, full color, aggressive programs and have inquired about establishing their own weekend events. Over-all I would estimate that The Spec Department ads will earn us over $20,000 this year alone.

The Coloradoan

The Spec Department's devotion to automotive templates and ads has really helped me provide my clients with fresh ideas and looks to their ads. One client in particular, Lithia Foothills Chrysler, has chosen your specs templates several times and used them for month long campaigns. That is about $45,000 worth of advertising that the spec dept has helped me close. Thanks!

The Havre Daily News

At the Havre Daily News on Friday we lead our classified section with a real estate page. After purchasing SpecDept.com. I went to all of our real estate offices with specdept ads. Unfortunately I could not get any takers. Six months later, one of them came in to my office and was complaining about their ad on Friday. I asked them to sit down and began showing him the real estate ads from Specdept.com and couldn't believe a small paper like ours could offer that type of quality. So they purchased our first specdept real estate ad for our Friday color section. By 5PM on Monday the rest of our realtors had called wondering why we hadn't built ads like that for them. To make a long story short they all now use specdept ads and sometimes we don't have enough to go around.

Argus Leader

Here at the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls, SD, we strive everyday to make more creative energy and push our hamster-wheel minds to their limits. There is not one day out of the year that we do not log on to the Spec Dept to find out "What's a good header for this auto ad", or "I wonder if they have a picture of a businessman eating breakfast" or "I wish I could find..." etc., etc., etc... and we set our design standards higher as well after the information we scoop up from your ingenious writers and photographers and "submitters". Thank you!

I had to design some Cinco De Mayo restaurant ads, and didn't have that perfect pic of a Mexican guy dancing, and yep, found it , used it, and yep, they liked it, and the others I produced using Mexican objects and the like from the Spec Dept. Thank you again! Ole!

"Well, did you look on the Spec Dept?" is something that's declared rapidly around the office here, and we artists know what a valuable tool is in our hands. Thanks to you, many ideas have erupted, many emergencies have been cooled, and many clients have turned their "I don't have an idea" faces into happy ones that want to give us more opportunities in the future.

So, thank you, and we look forward to more and more good ideas, pictures and things to come to keep our hamster-wheels running.

North County Times

As a graphic designer, I can truly say you play a integral part in our creative process.

It would be impossible to list all the marvelous things you guys make happen. One major joy you've brought is a new section we started in our newspaper, sports section. It's a full color golf page were happy to call: ON THE GREEN

Layout and ads on page are all from our favorite website thespecdept.com and the new addition ArtToday. This successful project took place with amazing proposals for each client created none other than from thespecdept.com. This is a success story because we have 6-8 ads of people who never advertised before, and consistently run once every week. The retail advertising manager said "This kind of grouping only last for about 4 months and then you have clients dropping out." We'll his prophecy didn't come true, we started in January and were on the 10th month going on strong. This wouldn't be possible if we didn't have your great artists and their creativity. Keep those golf graphics and templates coming.

The Florida Times-Union

I work in the Classified art department at The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville, Florida. We have a HUGE demand for automotive ad ideas. Thespecdept.com gives us immediate access to shells and headline ideas to show our clients. I recently did a campaign for a local Pontiac dealer based on your "Superior Saving" shell. It ran in both the newspaper and the TV Magazine. Pleased with the results, the same dealer used the Auto Auction idea from your website the following week.

Automotive dealers expect a very quick turnaround on their ads; with thespecdept.com I can pop a headline in an ad that otherwise would have taken me a while to create. And thank you for adding the Automotive Images category. Now I have the luxury of downloading artwork and car art from the same site! Thank you for this time saving, easy to use, sales and design tool.

Crossville Chronicle

I am the composition manager for a small town tri-weekly newspaper in Crossville, TN. We have three publications...The Crossville Chronicle, The Glade Sun (serving our Fairfield Glade Resort), and The Tansi Smoke Signals (serving our other resort community, Lake Tansi).

I have worked for the Chronicle since 1988 and have seen numerous advances in the layout and design field. But along came thespecdept.com. It is something that I never imagined would be available in my field of work.

Of course, please understand that when I first began this job, all ads were typeset on a prehistoric computer. All graphics were cut from graphic books the newspaper subscribed to, enlarged or reduced by our camera person, and physically waxed and pasted onto border-taped fields to create all of our ads.

Then, along came graphics on CDs. The luxury was great, but you still had to physically search through mountains of books (usually scattered all over the composition department floor) to find something even close to what you were looking for.

Hence, search disks. These were great, but you still had to continuously change CDs in your hard drive to get to what you were looking for. If you needed art from more than 1 CD, it could take a while.

Since our newspaper has been using the SpecDept, our production time has been cut in half. For example, our newspaper recently did a promotion called "Let's Make A Deal", printed on tabloid paper, that allowed customers to run a full page ad in this 100% advertising publication at a special low rate. Customers jumped at the idea, and wanted their ads to be really creative and outstanding, since this was probably the first time they had ever run an ad this large.

My co-worker and I jumped at the chance to log in to the SpecDept and create some real magic. No matter what the customers had in mind, we could find the art at our fingertips through your site. Needless to say, they were all very impressed, and our sales staff will have no problem selling this idea if it comes up next year.

And, quite frankly, we can't wait for the state ad layout contests at Tennessee Press this upcoming spring. Like the saying goes...."You ain't seen nothin' yet."

Thanks for your extensive library of art and information, as we use it several times a day. Our ads look more professional, our layouts cleaner and more eye appealing, and that makes the customers happy. When the customers are happy, the salespeople are happy. When the salespeople are happy, the publisher is happy. You get the idea.

We all work very hard together to produce a top quality publication that serves our community in all capacities. With your help, we're doing it a whole lot better.

The Tennessean

As you know with the Sept. 11 tragedy everyone in town wanted "flag art" in their ad. I had a sales person come to me wanting an entire page of patriotic ads! I had used all the "flag art" I felt was appropriate out of our CD's we had in the department. I went on thespecdept.com and found lots of great flag and star art. The page looked great. We salute you!

Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers

Understanding the plight that many of our small business owners had due to a soft economy and the terrorist attacks on NY and DC, Advertising Management launched a deeply discounted, frequency-driven rate reduction program to motivate the Mom's and Pop's in the market to keep their ads in the paper, even with business slightly off. Well it's working like a charm. Not only have we kept local ad revenue from nose-diving, we scored big with small business. They really appreciated our efforts to support their businesses. And, of course, the art for the entire program came from the fine folks at TheSpecDept.com.

Antelope Valley Press

We were having some struggles with a local auto dealer. They had been a consistent advertiser for years, but decided to put some extra money into radio and that extra money came from their newspaper budget. To get the account back, we searched for an ad on thespecdept.com that would catch their attention and get them back into the paper. We knew that the advertiser had significant truck inventory so we found an ad that focused on that. We build the ad in a matter of minutes, slapped a logo on and went out to the client. The site was very easy to used and cut down the design time by 90%. As we took the ad to the client they looked at it and the client actually told us that this was the first time that an ad actually made them emotional. It was a huge success. Because of this ad, we were able to get the schedule back and they are currently in the newspaper consistently.

Since then, they have gone back into the paper and spend an additional $30,000 that we would have lost had it not been for thespecdept.com. It has already paid for itself for the years to come.Thank you for your help!
